James Arthur Clark

James Arthur Clark, a 1953 graduate of Wheaton College, originally came to college to study science, recalled his wife, Hazel. "The Great Revival of 1950 turned his heart toward missions and he majored to Bible." While on campus he played trumpet in the Concert Band, Marching Band and Pep Band, was on The Record staff for three years, served as treasurer of Knights lit society and was elected to the National Honor Society. Clark went on to earn an MDiv at Gordon-Conwell Seminary. Jim and Hazel first met in language school several years later in San Jose, Costa Rica and married in 1961. Jim and his wife, Hazel (Winne '56) were church-planting missionaries under the Conservative Baptist Home Missions Society (CBHMS) in Central and South America – 17 1/2 years in Honduras and then El Salvador and Venezuela.  Jim's father was the founding president of the CBHMS while a pastor of the Galilee Baptist Church in Chicago. Upon return from the field in 1985 the Clarks introduced churches in Knoxville,TN to the outreach ministry of International Students and trained church volunteers. They also spent eight months ministering in Albania. The Clarks had a son, Peter '84, and two daughters, Rachel and Esther. Clark died on May 29, 2010 in Sebring, FL.
