Frank Bellinger
Frank Howard Bellinger was born December 7, 1920 in Summit, New Jersey and later moved to Woodbury, NY on Long Island. He attended Wheaton College and played freshman football and basketball in 1939-40. He was a charter member of the new literary society, Aristonian and held five offices, including parliamentarian. Frank enlisted in the U.S. Navy Reserve after graduation in 1942 and married fellow Wheaton alumna Josephine (Jo) Taylor '45 in her hometown of Portland, OR in December 1945. Frank accepted a discharge to earn an MA from Clark (MA) University in political science in 1948. Bellinger joined the Wheaton College faculty in fall 1948, teaching political science for 23 years. Frank was recruited to coach the men's tennis team between 1951-58 and enjoyed three CCI titles. He and Jo raised five sons: Carl, David, Scott, Richey, and Charles - born while teaching at Wheaton. Later, Frank became assistant professor at College of DuPage between 1971-1988. Bellinger's longest-lasting legacy is his contributions during 27 years as an elected commissioner on the DuPage County Board and Forest Preserve Commission. Frank Bellinger died on February 9, 2009 at the age of 88. |
