Charles H. Clark was born in Chicago on August 26, 1931, the only child of Hugh B. and Sarah Fry Clark. Chuck earned his B.A. degree in history from Wheaton College (IL) in 1952, and his M.A. and Ph.D. from the University of Illinois, with a focus on railroad history in the US. After teaching in Illinois high schools for 6 years he taught at Harrisburg Area Community College for 31 years, retiring as Senior Professor of History in 1997. He was married to his wife of forty-seven years, Sherilyn Coffman Clark, and together had four children. Chuck served in the armed forces during the Korean War. Among his community service activities, he taught many Bible classes at churches and camps in Illinois and Pennsylvania. He served in leadership positions on the boards of Greater Harrisburg Youth for Christ, Bible Baptist School, Christian School of York, and the Dover Bible Church. He enjoyed participating in several professional organizations, among them the Lexington Group in Transportation History, and the Organization of American Historians. He participated in committees which examined schools for accreditation for the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools. He died at his home in Upper Allen Township on March 6, 2012, at age 80.
