Carl E. Johnson

Carl E. Johnson, was born November 13, 1919, to Carl J. Johnson and Gerda (Johnson) Johnson in Chicago, Ill.  He the degrees of B.S. (1942), Wheaton College; and M.D. (1945), Northwestern University. He interned at Cook County Hospital, Chicago (1945-1946), and served a residency at the U.S. Navy Veterans Hospital, Albuquerque (1946-1948). Doctor Johnson entered the Mayo Graduate School of Medicine in 1948 and received the M.S. degree in obstetrics from the University of Minnesota in 1951. He was appointed a Mayo consultant in obstetrics and gynecology in 1952. He advanced through the academic ranks to become associate professor in the Mayo Graduate School of Medicine in 1971 and the Mayo Medical School in 1973. He has been active and received honors in a number of professional associations. He was president of the J. E. Fitzgerald Obstetrics & Gynecology Society. Doctor Johnson retired from Mayo Clinic in December 1988. Carl was married to Irene and together they had three children, Carolyn, Gail and Carl. Johnson died March 6, 2010 at 90 years of age.
