Geraldine Lawhorn
Geraldine Lawhorn, blind and deaf expressionist, presented a unique recital in Pierce Chapel on Saturday evening, October 20, 1945. Her program consisted primarily of interpretive readings, in addition to several piano selections. A severe case of measles might have been the cause of Lawhorn's loss of both sight and hearing during childhood. Though forced to learn braille, Lawhorn won a place on the honor roll for all four years of her Chicago high school, graduating 25th in a class of over 500. A scholarship sent her to the Chicago Piano College and School of Fine Arts. |
