Lucille Manners
Lucille Manners, soprano star of radio, appeared in concert at Pierce Chapel on January 20, 1944. She signed with the Cities Service Program in 1936 when an executive from that organization heard her voice. As her popularity spread throughout the airwaves, the public demanded "in person" shows. She was known for the power and control of her voice, her tones carrying vibrantly and richly to all sections of an auditorium. Manners' concert included three Irish country songs, a selection from The Marriage of Figaro, two numbers by Donaudy and one by Tosti, and concluded with five well-liked English compositions. |
