Jan Peerce
Jan Peerce, leading tenor of the Metropolitan Opera, appeared in the third regularly scheduled Artist Series concert on Thursday, January 3, 1956. Peerce was a frequent radio and television performer whose RCA Victor recordings were among the nation's best sellers. Critics praised Peerce's style and command of music. He encouraged aspiring singers to master an instrument before seriously considering a voice career in opera. A high point of Peerce's career was his association with conductor Arturo Toscanini, who engaged him for the tenor role in Beethoven's Ninth. |
