William Culbertson
Dr. William Culbertson, president of Moody Bible Institute, preached the fall evangelistic services from October 2-9, 1949. A member of the Reformed Episcopal church, Culbertson was made a bishop of the New York and Philadelphia synod in 1937, when 31 years old. Before arriving at MBI in 1942 as dean of education, he had served in three Reformed Episcopal churches as rector. He received a bachelor of divinity degree from the Reformed Episcopal seminary in Philadelphia in 1927; and in 1939 he was granted a doctor of divinity degree from the same institution. He also held an honorary degree of doctor of laws. Culbertson's teaching ministry began in 1928 when he accepted a position at the Philadelphia School of the Bible. In 1939 he received a degree from Temple University where he had studied education. He was also editor of Moody Monthly and a member of the executive committee of MBI's board of trustees. His daughter, Joy, attended Wheaton College and was a member of the Record staff. |
