Aelioian Literary Society
Aelioian Literary Society was founded in 1862 after Jonathan Blanchard insisted that women should separate from the Beltionian Society and form their own club (Aelioian Society) since "in his opinion ladies and gentlemen should not meet together in society." Therefore the Aelioians became the sister society to the "Belts." Known as the "Aels", the society's name meant "Daughters of the Sun." Their motto was "To be rather than to seem." Their society colors were yellow and white. Like many of Wheaton's literary societies the Aelioians disbanded in 1958. |
