The colors of orange and blue were inspired allegedly by the same colors which in former years graced the flag of the Netherlands and before that the flag of the House of Orange and Prince William. Jonathan Blanchard is reputed to have had great admiration for the militant Protestant stand taken by Dutch Protestants and their rulers of the House of Orange.
