William A. Beith

William A. Beith was born in Campton (Kane County) on September 1, 1878, the son of George A. and Lucinda Richmond Beith. Growing up on a farm three miles northeast of Elburn he attended the Stewart district school until fifteen years of age, then matriculated in the Elburn high school. Afterward he entered Wheaton College, pursued a classical course, and graduated in 1903. Due to family concerns he returned to the 500-acre family farm and devoted his time and energies to agricultural pursuits. His home was recognized as a very beautiful country home, surrounded by shade trees and near a splendid spring providing water for the family and livestock. In 1905 Beith married Grace A. Sutor, who was born and educated in Chicago. Beith was known as a staunch prohibitionist, as well as a public spirited and progressive citizen who gave his support to every enterprise which he believed would advance the intellectual, moral and social welfare of the community. Beith died on August 13, 1955 and is buried in Elburn, Illinois.
