Community Covenant
Since its founding Wheaton College students, faculty and staff, seeking to advance the cause of Christ in community, have agreed to adhere to a common standard of conduct. The codes of conduct have changed over the years and have moved from the explicit and concrete to a more principles-based guide. The Statement of Responsibilities, referred to as "The Pledge", was instituted in 1979 with students pledging to refrain from a variety of activities such as movie-attendance, card playing or membership in a secret society. The Statement of Responsibilities attempts to provide a philosophical/biblical foundation on which particular restrictions are based. The "Pledge" is replaced in 2003 with the Community Covenant that more fully reaches the goal of presenting the ideals of living together in community. |
