McManis Hall
North Hall I, as McManis was originally known, was completed in 1937 and housed 67 women students. After the Baccalaureate service in 1956 the building was renamed Carolyn McManis Hall for the wife of Fred McManis, Sr., a wealthy benefactor of the college and president of WKM company of Houston, Texas. Mr. McManis had heard of Wheaton College from a distant relative on the day the stock market crashed and was told, "If you ever have any money, invest it in Wheaton College." Evans Hall, or North Hall II, would be added to the north in 1945. |
