Dr. Richard King (Dick) Davies was born September 7, 1920 in Elyria, Ohio to Walter E. and Ruth Metcalf Davies. After graduating from Elyria High School, he studied for two years at Wheaton College (class of 1942). He enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II. He flew in the Pacific Theatre in New Guinea and the Philippines. Upon discharge, he attended South California School of Optometry on the GI Bill. He met Eunice (Juna) Mary Mcintosh there and they married in 1947. They lived briefly in Wenatchee, Washington and in 1948, moved to Ephrata, where he set up his optometry practice. Dick was an active member in the community and at Ephrata First Baptist Church for the next 59 years. Dick and Juna reared six children. Dick retired from his optometry practice in 1990 and in 2007, the Davies moved to Fairwinds Brighton Court retirement center in Lynnwood, Washington. He died on Friday, October 25, 2013 at age 93. |
