Ray Edward Befus was born in 1932 in Sheboygan, WI and studied for a year at the University of Wisconsin before transferring into Wheaton College as a sophomore Bible major ('54).  Ray served three years on Gospel teams where he also sang in the male quartet.  He went on to study at Dallas Theological Seminary where, after graduation in 1958, he served two years at Alameda Bible Church in Houston, TX. He was then called as senior pastor of Forcey Memorial Church in Washington, DC (1960-66) before moving to Grand Rapids where he ministered at Calvary Undenominational Church and then Bethany Bible Church. Befus held four pulpits during his long pastoral career of over 50 years. He was married to his wife of 58 years, Mary (Wondergem) Befus and together had three sons and two daughters. He died on April 9, 2012.
