Helen Siml deVette was born on February 19, 1922. She grew up in Berwyn, IL and transferred into Wheaton College as a sophomore in Fall 1942 from Morton Junior College. The English major was a member of Ladies literary society, the Scripture Distribution Society, Chapel Choir and Chi Sigma Theta (Christian leadership in Education). She graduated from Wheaton in 1945. She met her husband, Dr. Robert deVette at Wheaton College and married in 1962.  She taught English and Writing classes for over thirty-four years (1948-82) and was jointly named Distinguished Alumni of the Year for Contribution to Alma Mater in 1981 along with her husband. After retirement, they followed the lives and careers of their many students. Over the years, Helen and Bob attended Fisrt Baptist Church, Wheaton Bible Church, and then College Church. Helen was preceded in death by her brothers, Dr. Arthur (Helen) Siml and Dr. Boudy (Grace) Siml. Helen Siml deVette died on June 24, 2012 at age 89.
