Carol Eileen (Erickson) Smith, 93, formerly of West Lafayette, Ind., died Saturday, December 7, 2013 in Noblesville, Ind. Carol was born to the late Richard and Lempi Erickson on November 13, 1920. She received a bachelor's degree in chemistry from Wheaton College (Ill.) in 1942, attended medical school in Philadelphia, and aspired to be a medical missionary overseas. She was one of the first women in the U.S. to receive her seaplane pilot's license.
