Allan Comstock Emery, Jr. was born in 1919 and attended Wheaton College in Illinois in 1941. He worked with his father in the Boston woolen industry before enlisting in the US Coast Guard following the attack on Pearl Harbor. He married a fellow Wheaton classmate, Marian Smith in 1942 and together had two sons, Allan and Arthur. The Emerys held the Weymouth (MA) Bible Club for high school students in their home every Thursday night for 33 years. After the war, he returned to the woolen business, and was named President of Boston Wool Trade and the National Wool Trade Association. He subsequently served as President of ServiceMaster Hospital Corporation of Boston and President and Chief Operating Officer of the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association from the mid-1970s to late-1980s. He was also instrumental in bringing Billy Graham crusades to Boston in 1950 and 1964. Dr. Emery served on the Gordon-Conwell Seminary Board of Trustees from 1969 until 2001, was Vice Chairman from 1975 to 1993, succeeded Rev. Billy Graham as Chairman and served in that capacity until 1995. He was also Chair of the Executive Committee, and on the Finance, Nominating and Financial Development Committees. Dr. Emery was also a trustee of Wheaton College and was honored with a Doctorate of Laws (LL.D.) in 1986. He served on numerous charitable and philanthropic organizations, including many years as President of the Evangelistic Association of New England (now Vision New England), President of the Boston Industrial Home-Union Rescue Mission, 20 year board member of Christianity Today Incorporated, and as a Life Deacon at Park Street Church, Boston.
