George H. Smith

Smith was knows as "Wheaton's 'grand old man of athletics.'" Born in 1849, Smith was active in Wheaton community affairs. He served as an alderman on the city council from 1906 to 1910. He was, also, associate editor of the Wheaton Progressive for many years. He was a member of the Gary Memorial Methodist Church. He died January 4, 1937. In his honor, Blanchard E202 was named in his honor, a room that had previous housed the library stacks.
