Gold Star Chapel
Originally housed in the Memorial Student Center, the chapel was created as a place for meditation, individual and group prayer, worship and small weddings. The name came from the custom of families of servicemen hanging a banner called a Service Flag in the window of their homes. The Service Flag had a star for each family member in the military. Living servicemen were represented by a blue star, and those who had lost their lives were represented by a gold star. Wheaton's World War II Service Flag, or Gold Star Banner, is housed in the Wheaton College Archives. After the renovation of the Memorial Student Center, the Gold Star Chapel was moved to the Beamer Center. |
