Dr. Matt Elsen (1911)

died on November 2, 1952, in Winnebego, IL. Following graduation from Wheaton, Dr. Elsen served as Physical Education director here and as coach in Muskogee, OK. In 1917 he was graduated from Northwestern University of Medicine during WW I and served as a lieutenant in the Navy medical corps. He practiced Medicine in Stillman Valley and in Chicago before moving to Winnebego where he served as physician and surgeon for the last 28 years. In 1918, he married Olive E. Straw in Dixon, IL.

Dr. Elsen served for 15 years on the Winnebago school board and several years as a school treasurer. For a number of years, he taught the adult Sunday School class in the Winnebago Presbyterian Church. A member of the County Medical Association, he had also been a member of the North Shore

branc

branch of the Chicago Medical Association. Surviving were his wife, his son, John (1942), a doctor in Evanston, and daughter Josephine (1946), on the faculty of Tabor College College, Hillsboro, KS.
